Alumnus Contends for Best Graduate TU Delft

 

Campion alumnus (2003) Stavros Gargaretas, who is presently an architecture student at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, is a contender for the title of Best Graduate of TU Delft with his concept for made-to-measure space.

Sunita Shroff - TV Presenter and Actress (1987)

Sunita Shroff (1987) is a TV presenter, reporter and actress in the UK. Sunita was born in Scotland to Irish and Indian parents, and raised in Greece where she was educated at Campion School. She speaks fluent Greek, Italian and French.

 

 Her TV career started at Channel East where she fronted their flagship current affairs show. Sunita went on to compete against 11,000 other people in the BBC Talent Competition and came in the final 3 in the ‘Holiday Programme' category.

ΚΑΘΗΓΗΤΗ ΣΤΟ ΠΑΝΕΠΙΣΤΗΜΙΟ ΚΡΗΤΗΣ

Το Ευρωπαϊκό Συμβούλιο Έρευνας χρηματοδοτεί Έλληνα ερευνητή από την Κρήτη

Ένας Έλληνας επιστήμονας, ο Πέτρος Ρακιτζής, καθηγητής στο Πανεπιστήμιο Κρήτης και ερευνητής στο Ινστιτούτο Τεχνολογίας και Έρευνας (ΙΤΕ), περιλαμβάνεται στους 59 Ευρωπαίους ερευνητές, των οποίων το καινοτομικό έργο θα χρηματοδοτήσει το Ευρωπαϊκό Συμβούλιο Έρευνας (ΕΣΕ).

Στόχος των συγκεκριμένων επιχορηγήσεων είναι οι ερευνητές στην Ευρώπη, να έχουν τώρα την ευκαιρία να μετατρέψουν τις εφευρέσεις τους σε βιώσιμα προϊόντα. Οι επιχορηγήσεις, ύψους έως 150.000 ευρώ, θα δώσουν τη δυνατότητα στους επιλεγμένους ερευνητές να δημιουργήσουν νεοφυείς επιχειρήσεις, να κατοχυρώσουν δικαιώματα πνευματικής ιδιοκτησίας για τις εφευρέσεις τους ή να διερευνήσουν άλλους τρόπους για να δοκιμάσουν τις ιδέες τους στην αγορά.

Μεταξύ των πολλά υποσχόμενων ιδεών συγκαταλέγονται καινοτομίες, όπως η διάγνωση του καρκίνου του μαστού με μια απλή αιματολογική εξέταση, ένα σύστημα παρακολούθησης των δασών που βοηθά στην πρόληψη της παράνομης αποψίλωσής τους, καθώς και τεχνητές φλέβες εμπνευσμένες από θαλάσσιους σπόγγους.

Η έρευνα του κ. Ρακιτζή με τίτλο CHIRALSENSE αφορά στη βελτίωση -με τη χρήση πολωσιμετρίας- της ευαισθησίας και της χρονικής κατανομής της ανίχνευσης της χειρομορφίας (της ιδιότητας δύο μορίων να είναι εναντιόμορφα, δηλαδή να μην μπορούν να ταυτιστούν με την κατοπτρική τους εικόνα). Η μέθοδος προβλέπεται να χρησιμοποιηθεί σε πολλούς τομείς της χημείας (στερεοχημεία, οργανική χημεία, φυσικοχημεία, βιοχημεία, υπερμοριακή χημεία) και στη φαρμακολογία.

Annia Lekka Author (1988)

 Author Annia Lekka (1988) was  born in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1968, and grew up in London, UK. After Campion, she obtained a BA (Hons) in Theatre Design from Central Saint Martin's College of Art and Design and was awarded a scholarship by the Royal West of England Academy for research studies in Nepal. She has worked as a set and costume designer in Athens and London, and was also the stage manager for five years at the Athens Concert Hall. In 2008 she gained an MA in Creative Writing (with Merit) from Lancaster University.
